HelioClim: a long-term database on solar radiation for Europe and Africa
نویسندگان
چکیده
An information system, called HelioClim, is available for answering the needs for long-term time-series of solar radiation data. Daily irradiation values are available over Europe, Africa and Atlantic Ocean, from 1985 onwards. This database is accessible through the Soda Web service (http://www.soda-is.com) on a free basis. Meteosat satellites images are used to produce this climatological database. The method Heliosat-2 converts these images into maps of the global irradiation at ground level. A comparison was performed between irradiation values available in HelioClim and those measured by ground stations in Europe. A measuring station is not necessarily contained within a B2 pixel and an interpolation method is needed. The root mean square error (RMSE) increases as the irradiation increases and is less than 850 Wh/m2, that is a relative error of 20 %, a satisfactory result compared to what can be achieved using sparse pyranometric stations only.

Developing a database using METEOSAT data for the delivery of solar radiation assessments at ground level
An information system, called HelioClim, is offered for answering the needs for long-term time-series of solar radiation data. These data originate from the processing of spaceborne observations made in the visible range by geostationnary satellites to derive solar radiation available at ground level. The recent method Heliosat 2 is used. It offers several improvements in operation and accuracy...
متن کاملHelioClim - 3 : a near - real time and long - term surface solar irradiance database
—HelioClim-3 is a database containing surface solar irradiance assessed every 15 min from images taken by the Meteosat series of satellites since 2004. It covers Europe, Africa and Atlantic Ocean. In average, comparison with hourly measurements made in meteorological stations yields a correlation coefficient greater than 0.9, a relative root mean square error (rRMSE) around 20% of the mean meas...
متن کاملUncertainties in Photovoltaic Electricity Yield Prediction from Fluctuation of Solar Radiation
We have analyzed the variability of solar radiation in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions by comparing yearly and monthly averages to long-term average values calculated from the HelioClim-1 database. Daily sums of global horizontal irradiation are considered for 18 years in the period 1985-2004. Standard deviation of yearly sums of global horizontal irradiation shows low interannual varia...
متن کاملAssessing surface solar irradiance in Northern Africa desert climate and its long-term variations from Meteosat images
Two databases of solar surface irradiance (SSI) derived from satellites are compared to ground measurements for Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. It is found that it is possible to accurately derive the SSI from geostationary meteorological satellites, even with a coarse spatial resolution. The two databases HelioClim-1 and SSE exhibit similar and good performances. The bias is lower for SSE t...
متن کاملUsing remotely sensed solar radiation data for reference 1 evapotranspiration estimation at a daily time step
16 Solar radiation is an important climatic variable for assessing reference evapotranspiration 17 (E0), but it is seldom available in weather station records. Meteosat satellite images processed 18 with the Heliosat-2 method provide the HelioClim-1 database, which displays spatialized 19 solar radiation data at a daily time step for Europe and Africa. The aim of the present work 20 was to inve...
